SDRC I-DEAS Frequently Asked Questions

Bugs:

Why Do I Get "Open Feature" Error When Editing Wireframes In MS3.0 Master Assembly?

Pick a instances' feature in Assembly Modeller and edit its wireframe. Delete something, a curve for example. The instance will automatically update but leave an "Open Feature" error preventing any further edits. To cure this get the part out in Master Modeller and do a compete update. To prevent this happening again turn off assembly autoupdate in update options.

Why Do I Get "Write Privilege" Error When Using MS3.0 Assembly Cutouts?

MS3.0 requires write privilege to pre MS3.0 parts in order to correctly perform Assembly Cutouts. If your assembly contains referenced pre MS3.0 parts you will be able to produce assembly cutouts but not modify them. All works fine with new MS3.0 parts/assemblies

How Can I Prevent Exit Error Files Containing "Database Key file open error" messages?

Are you getting error files written when exiting I-DEAS that contain lines like this:

   Database Key file open error: /CDROM/help/doc/english/gnc.key
   Database Key file open error: /CDROM/help/doc/english/gnp.key

These are caused when you have chosen not to load the complete Smart View Database to hard disk. Open

   .../ideas/ms4/help/data/IDEAS_Library_English/libcfg.unx
or
   .../ideas/ms5/help/data/english/libcfg.unx
and edit the following line (yours may differ):

   databases=NAV,UPD,INT,MGT,DES,DRG,DFT,DTR,DPG,GNC,GNP,VWM,UNV,GDT,OAR,ADM,MDS,RDM,khelp

Remove the items that you do not have loaded, i.e. in the case above gnc & gnp.
