General Info On Me, Neil Rothwell

Personal Profile

I was born in Middleton, Lancashire on 22nd September 1959. I then spent the formative years of my life living in various Lancashire towns: Widnes, Preston, Swinton and finally settling down in Sale, Cheshire. I attended Sale Boys Grammar School from 1974-1978 and then went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Salford University, from where I graduated with a BSc (hons) in 1981. Since then I have worked for three large companies, GEC High Voltage Switchgear, NEI Baldwin & Francis Mining Equipment & Siemens Measurements. I am currently self-employed, providing Electro-Mechanical Design Engineering Services.

In my spare time (when I'm not writing HTML code!) I enjoy Sea Angling - both shore and boat. This includes regular trips to Ireland & Scotland in pursuit of "The Big One". One of my favourite haunts is Dingle in County Kerry, Southern Ireland, where the life is easy, the fishing is great and the Guinness is mmmmmm....... Some of my most memorable fishing exploits have involved boat ownership. For a time I was proud joint owner of a 16' vessel with my buddies John (Gringo) Woodward and Danny (Baby Face) Riley. On one infamous occasion we set sail for a days fishing in the Irish Sea off the North Wales coast. As we were leaving the harbour mouth we felt a damp sensation around our feet. At the same time the boat was getting gradually lower in the water. Well, whose job was it to make sure the drain bung was fitted? A quick about turn and we just made it back to dry land.

I also enjoy all things computer & internet related. I participate actively in the SDRC I-DEAS internet user group - ICCON, a great way of sharing experiences with like minded folk. At home I have a Silicon Graphics O2 which I have networked to my PC running LINUX. I love tinkering around with UNIX and IRIX in particular.

Professional Profile

After 15 years working for several major engineering companies on January 1997 I became self-employed, providing Electro-Mechanical Design Engineering services. I use the latest in high-end CAD software - SDRC I-DEAS Master Series running on a Silicon Graphics O2 workstation. This enables me to provide rapid solutions for many areas of product design, including: concept models, rapid prototyping and production drawings. I also provide CAD related System Administration services, my expertise being with SDRC-IDEAS & Silicon Graphics IRIX (UNIX).
